November 14, 2003
Sudberry Properties, Inc. will host a grand opening celebration for EastLake Village Marketplace, its new $50 million, 410,000-square-foot community retail center, on Saturday, November 15, 2003, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. EastLake Village Marketplace is located on the corner of Otay Lakes Road just west of EastLake Parkway in Chula Vista, Calif.

With fun for the entire family, the grand opening celebration will feature train rides, game booths manned by local schools, balloon sculptures, spin art and "fun jump." The first 1,500 shoppers at EastLake Village Marketplace will receive free refrigerator magnets. Shoppers also will be invited to register to win one of five $100 shopping sprees.
Also, many EastLake Village Marketplace tenants -- which include anchor stores Target and Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, and more than 30 shops, services, and restaurants -- will host free activities and special events as a way of introducing themselves to the community.

Wells Fargo Bank will offer free horse-drawn stagecoach rides. Daphne's Greek Café will host a "Zesta" eating contest and will offer shoppers the opportunity to meet and take home autographs from players for the San Diego Sockers soccer team. Bank of America will set up a prize wheel and provide free Kinderprint Child Identification kits. Panda Express will host a performance of "Lion Dance," a colorful Chinese dragon dance. Ultra Beauty Supply & Salon will provide free applications of funky temporary hair color for kids. Office Depot will provide free children's identification cards, product samples, and giveaways. Daydreams Ceramic Café will invite shoppers to paint a free tile, and Prudential California Realty will provide a clown with free face painting.

Several stores also will be giving away helium balloons and other giveaways, as well as complimentary food and product samples. Many stores will have mascots greeting shoppers, including the Jamba Juice "Banana-Man," EB Games' "Gamer," and Wendy's "Ms. Wendy."

In addition, Magic 92.5 FM will broadcast live from the grand opening and will give away prizes provided by the radio station and EastLake Village Marketplace merchants. Many merchants will offer discount coupons; provide special grand opening day specials; and conduct drawings for a DVD player courtesy of Sprint, a $599 gift certificate to the center's Sleep Train Mattress Center, and other prizes. "The Grand Opening celebration is our way of showing our pride and excitement about the growth and development surrounding EastLake, as well as our appreciation of the community's support," said Colton Sudberry, vice president of development for Sudberry Properties. "With EastLake Village Marketplace, residents can enjoy the convenience of shopping in their 'backyards,' dining at one of numerous restaurants, or just relaxing and socializing in one of the outdoor plazas. Our goal was to create a unique, community-focused atmosphere that will further enhance the feeling of community within EastLake and the surrounding areas."

Designed by Fehlman LeBarre Architecture & Planning, EastLake Village Marketplace serves as the gateway and town center hub for the EastLake community and its residents. Currently 100 percent leased, the 35-acre center is anchored by Target and Lowe's Home Improvement Center. The center also encompasses a dynamic mix of more than 30 tenants, including: Office Depot, Islands, Miguel's Mexican Cocina, Johnny Carino's, Prudential, Wendy's, Chevron, Wells Fargo Bank, Union Bank, Bank of America, Wendy's, Starbucks, Daphne's Greek Cafe, Jamba Juice, Coldstone Cremery, Bento & Noodles, Subway, Payless Shoe Source, Sleep Train Mattress Center, and more.

Reflecting the ranching and farming history of the area, the design of EastLake Village Marketplace recaptures the essence of the "village town center," while addressing contemporary needs of patrons. Buildings vary in size from intimately scaled shops and restaurants, to larger stores totaling up to 137,000 square feet of retail space. To complement the shopping and dining experience, EastLake Village Marketplace also includes outdoor seating areas that encourage socializing and relaxation, including a large patio with shade trees, trellises, water misters, and an outdoor fireplace.

Colton Sudberry served as principal-in-charge for Sudberry Properties. Sundt Construction was the general contractor. Nowell & Associates was the landscape architect. Stuart Engineering served as civil engineer, with Power Plus as the utility consultant. Leasing was handled by Flocke & Avoyer.
