Sudberry Properties, Inc. Celebrates 25 years in Real Estate Development Industry.
March 18, 2004
Sudberry Properties, Inc., a leading San Diego-based real estate development and asset management company, officially celebrated its 25-year anniversary on March 5, announced Thomas W. Sudberry, Jr., president and founder of the firm.
Since 1979, Sudberry Properties has grown into one of Southern California's most respected development firms, specializing in retail and town center developments. The firm has developed more than 4.5 million square feet of space encompassing more than 20 community shopping centers, office/industrial parks, and residential developments, many of which are located within premier masterplanned communities throughout San Diego County, South Riverside County, and Las Vegas.
Under the leadership of Tom Sudberry as president, Sudberry Properties operates with a dynamic executive team that also includes Jeffrey G. Bradley as executive vice president; Colton T. Sudberry, vice president of development; Marco A. Sessa, vice president of development; and Christine E. Evans, chief operating officer. The company employs a staff of 20 at its office headquarters on Morehouse Drive in the Sorrento Mesa area of San Diego.
"Because we have such a strong group of team members, Sudberry Properties has been able to remain relatively small, despite our involvement in a significant number of projects over the last 25 years," said Tom Sudberry. "Our size enables our company principals to be directly involved with day-to-day decisions of every project. This personal attention has been the underlying reason for our success."
Having earned the distinction as an innovative retail developer, Sudberry Properties incorporates the "New Urbanism" design approach into its town center developments and mixed-use urban communities. Centers such as the recently completed 410,000-square-foot EastLake Village Marketplace in Chula Vista and the 560,000-square-foot Fenton Marketplace in San Diego exemplify the firm's expertise in "creating a community within a community." These centers were developed with intimate gathering places within larger suburban areas, while also capturing the cultural and historical flavors of their respective regions through high-quality architecture/landscaping and distinct attention to detail.
"Whenever possible, we want to be involved in the upfront planning and entitlement processes with the master developer to ensure that retail projects are designed in a way that can maximize their longterm success," said Colton Sudberry. "This means developing retail centers that effectively incorporate and integrate both residential and commercial components, and that are designed to enhance their surrounding communities."
Overall, Sudberry Properties plans to continue focusing on mixed-use town center developments throughout San Diego and Riverside counties. Retail projects currently under predevelopment by the company include, among others, Village Walk at EastLake and Canyon Hills Marketplace. In addition, Sudberry Properties is in the process of entitling 230 acres at Quarry Falls in Mission Valley. This project proposes significant retail, residential, office, and mixed-use components.
"We believe our business is an extension of our faith, and that our greatest asset is our people, from our employees, to our partners, lenders and tenants," said Tom Sudberry. "Our operating philosophy has been to have faith in the people we work with and to focus on what we do best, always approaching the future with sound financial planning. We'll continue to uphold these principles for our next 25 years in business."
Sudberry Properties, Inc. is headquartered at 5465 Morehouse Drive, Ste. 260 San Diego, Calif. 92121-4714.
