January 27, 2006
Stephen
Haase, AICP, has joined Sudberry Properties, Inc. as a vice president
of development, announced President Tom Sudberry, who heads the
San Diego-based real estate development and asset management
firm.
In his new position at Sudberry Properties, Haase will assist with the entitlement process for the company's retail and mixed-use projects, including the proposed Quarry Falls project in the Mission Valley area of San Diego.
"Throughout his career, Haase has been committed to smart growth as a guiding principle behind the types of projects he develops," said Sudberry. "Selecting him to assist with Quarry Falls and other future projects will allow us to remain focused on comprehensive and integrated land planning, while working to maintain a healthy regional economy."
Haase brings more than 10 years of city planning experience to the Sudberry team. Most recently, he served more than three years as director of the City of San José Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department. There, his responsibilities included long-range and current planning, building plan check and inspection, and community-based code enforcement for a department of more than 330 employees and budget of $35 million. During his tenure, the city approved revisions to the North San José Development Policy to evolve a horizontal manufacturing environment to a high-density urban village that includes workforce housing and commercial development.
Previously, Haase served 13 years at the City of San Diego, leaving the City as the assistant director of development services. In that position, he led the implementation of a project management system to streamline the permitting process and served as a spokesperson to development industry professional organizations, community planning committees, and other external agencies.
Haase is a member of the American Planning Association, American Institute of Certified Planners, and the Urban Land Institute. He also has participated on the Bay Area Planning Directors Association's Steering Committee, where he assisted with program planning and the development of the Regional Livability Footprint.
He is a California native and holds both a bachelor's degree in public administration and a master's degree in business administration from San Diego State University.
