AIA San Diego Honors the Master Plan of Civita

The 2025 San Diego Design Awards, sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, recently presented an Honor Award in the Urban Design category to Carrier Johnson + Culture for the master plan of Civita. Civita is a 230-acre urban village in San Diego’s Mission Valley, developed by Sudberry Properties in collaboration with the Grant family, which has owned the former quarry property since the early 1900s.

The judges said: “Programmatically as well as ecologically, the Civita Master Plan offers a comprehensive and visionary solution to reimagining a post-industrial site. The fact that the site is vibrantly occupied by a public that responds to its programmatic and ecological offerings is a testament to the project’s success!”

The 2025 AIA Design Awards honored 21 projects in San Diego that span more than 100 years of design. The American Institute of Architects in San Diego County represents nearly 1,000 members.
